Ray Jent began his career in the music business after World War II in 1946, when he worked for Jenkins’ Music in Joplin, Missouri. In 1950, he transferred to the company’s Amarillo location, and in 1954 was named the store manager for the Jenkins’ Lubbock store.
Ray and his wife, Mickey, founded Jent’s House of Music on July 15th, 1961. They started with a 30-foot storefront, which grew to 180 feet by 1968. Through 44 years of commitment, Jent’s
has continued to expand in square footage and services offered.
From
1995 to 1998, Ray served on the board of directors for the National
Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). In 2002, he was bestowed with
perhaps his greatest honor when Lubbock High School named its new band
hall “Jent Hall,” in appreciation for his years of dedication
and service to the music education industry.
