Mickey Jent was a pioneer in the retail-music industry. Together,
Mickey and Ray, her husband of 62 years founded Jent’s House
of Music on July 15th, 1961. Mickey worked in the day-to-day operations
through 1990, when she retired as the company’s Vice President
of Print Music. Under her guidance, the print music department developed
into one of the largest in the tri-state area. She remained active
in Jent’s strategic planning until her death, October 14, 2006.
Mickey’s passion for print music was fueled by her desire to appeal
to every musician’s area of interest and skill level. While raising
a family of three children, she built a print music department that stimulated
the musical interests of her extended family – Jent’s customers.
Mickey believed the critical element of learning was encouragement and the
biblical teachings of “making a joyful sound”.
Mickey successfully combined a career and raising a family, during
a time when few women worked outside the home or in the music-retail
business. The Jent’s family and the Lubbock community will remember
her for her generosity, “Fantastic” can-do attitude, zest
for entertaining, and wonderful sense of humor.
Music teachers, band directors, professional musicians, and students – from
church music to rock bands – have come to depend on Jent’s
as their primary source for print music.
Jent’s continues its reputation of leadership in the print music
industry for the tri-state area, and has expanded its coverage as the
region’s exclusive provider of eMuscExpress and out-of-print/obscure
pieces available on EBAY.
