Band : Trumpet

The trumpet is often the heart and soul of a band. From rich, jazzy melodies to piercing fanfares, the bright and clear-sounding trumpet soars above the other instruments to become the star of the show.

The cornet is a similar instrument. Both the trumpet and cornet are in the same key, but the cornet provides a mellower sound, and is somewhat easier to play. As a result, many beginner students choose a cornet and later migrate to the trumpet.

Like other brass instruments, the trumpet is played by shaping your lips to fit a solid mouthpiece. Notes are changed via a series of three valves, which are controlled with the right hand. Proper tuning is accomplished by adjusting the length of the tubing that makes up the body of the instrument.
