Orchestra : Bass

The double bass is the largest and lowest-pitched instrument in the string family. It can be played either sitting, like a cellist, or standing. Though a bow can be used, bassists frequently pluck their strings to produce sound.

The instrument’s low register is perfect for providing a solid foundation for the rest of the orchestra. The bass is therefore used quite frequently for rhythmic work, but it can also be used as a solo instrument.
