Orchestra : Cello

Also known as the violin cello, the cello is the tenor voice of the orchestra family. Unlike the higher-register violin and viola, the cello is supported on the floor by an endpin, while the cellist steadies the instrument between his or her needs. Like the rest of the string family, it is played with a bow.

The cello can play deep low tones, but also subdued high tones. It is tuned one octave lower than the viola, making it a perfect choice for doubling the sound of a particular melody.
