Orchestra : The Importance of Maintaining Your Instrument

The basics for maintaining your instrument

Strings

The most important thing to remember about stringed instruments is that home repairs should never be attempted – take your instrument to Jent’s qualified professionals for servicing. If parts do fall off, keep them in a zip-lock bag and bring them to us as soon as possible for repair.

Like woodwind instruments, humidity and temperature affect string instruments significantly and great care must be taken to regulate their affects. If dryness is a problem use a “dampit’ to add moisture (available from Jent’s). Each time you play the instrument inspect it to ensure the seams and bridge are straight. Maintain the finish with a soft cloth after each use and change the strings every six months.
