WOODWINDS

Woodwinds

Woodwinds Selection

Clarinet

Popular clarinets can play a wide range of notes – from soothing and bluesy low tones to piercing and jazzy high tones. These instruments are commonly made of composite materials but many are manufactured using a special wood called Granadilla. Clarinets may be the easiest of all the woodwind instruments to play - like other instruments a sound is made by blowing through a mouthpiece with a reed.

At Jent’s, we proudly offer a brand of clarinets that are suitable for both the beginner and the professional:

• Jupiter • Selmer • Artley • Vito • Normandy
• Noblet • LeBlanc • Yamaha • Buffet

Flute

The flute and the piccolo can both produce some of the highest tones of any instrument. Many composers often use instruments to represent the sound of birds or to create simple and memorable melodies. Unlike other woodwinds, the flute, which is often made of a combination of silver and nickel, does not have a reed. Piccolos are about half the size of a normal flute and are the highest pitch instrument in the band or orchestra.

At Jent’s, we carry flutes and piccolos that are suitable for all levels:

• Gemeinhardt • Sonare • Jupiter • Selmer • Armstrong
• Artley • Emerson • Vito • Yamaha

Oboe/Bassoon
Oboe and bassoons represent two extremes of a similar contact: double-reeded woodwinds with a strong voice.

The oboe is shaped similarly to a clarinet, with a length of wood tubing with keys that cover holes to form individual notes. Unlike the clarinet, the oboe’s sound is made with two reeds and not one. This makes the oboe a difficult instrument to play, but the effort is very rewarding: the oboe offers a high clear sound that wonderfully cuts through the atmospheres of other instruments.

The bassoon is another double-reeded instrument that is basically a longer version of the oboe. The bassoon captures the same soaring sonic quality of the oboe but at a lower register.

We offer the following brands of bassoons:

• Buffet • Schreiber • Fox • Renard • Yamaha • Selmer • LeBlanc • Jupiter

Saxophone
The saxophone is a versatile instrument that is suited for a wide range of styles and sounds – producing both very high-pitched sounds and soothing low tones. Coming in a range of sizes and pitches, ranging from the small and high pitched to the large and low pitched, the saxophone comes in alto, tenor and baritone ranges. Saxophone is one of the more simple woodwinds to play, especially in comparison to bassoon and oboe.

Jent’s proudly offers the following brands:

• Cannonball • Keilwerth • Jupiter • Conn • King • Selmer
• Armstrong • Yanagisawa • Yamaha
